LOW HEADROOM
SUPER SNEAKY
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Super Sneaky Low Headroom Proud Member

Super Sneaky Low Headroom Brackets are designed to be installed with an automatic opener. With that said, you can use them for a manual installation. The top panel MUST be manually tipped in first. Then you raise the door manually. This would require the installation of a handle and a slide bar lock on the top panel that would be reachable by anyone.

This type of installation is not recommended because of these issues.

Basic instructions for installing your standard door and operator in 9” of headroom

1.Install your garage door and vertical track as outlined by the manufacturer, but do not install the curve radius horizontal track at this point. (Tip) When leveling your bottom section, use a flat shim and extend it far enough so that the bottom of the vertical track will be level with the bottom of the door section.

2.Install the Super Sneaky Low Headroom Brackets on each side of the top section, with fasteners supplied in your hardware box. (For doors requiring a strut, or bow strap, now is the time to install it).

3.Place roller in the Super Sneaky Bracket and install the curve radius horizontal track.

4.Build the operator door mount using punched angle just like the one in the picture reference and attach to the top section of the door, making sure it is centered.

5.Drill out the front rivet of the 22” starter angle (see picture reference) lower entire spring assembly, so that the cable drum clears the top section of the door by at least ½” then drill a now hole and use a flat headed track bolt and nut to re-secure it. (Tip) There is no set measurement for this adjustment; your goal is to fit the spring assembly and automatic operator within your headspace.

6.Wind the spring, back hang the track and install the weather strip in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions.

7.Install the automatic operator. (Tip) You may find it very difficult to mount the operator bracket to the header. You can attach a piece of lumber to the ceiling just in front of the spring assembly and attach the operator mount to that.

The operator rail should have at least Ύ” of clearance between it and the door face in the open position or it may contact the door causing damage. Now attach the operator arm, but with the curved part connected to the operator and the straight part connected to the door. (Tip) Carefully tip the top section inwards, manually raising and lowering the door, checking to make sure everything is working smoothly.

8.Engage the operator and set the limit switches. With the door in the closed position, screw a length of 2X4 to the header just above the top section. (Very important) This will allow the door to safely reverse itself. This feature actually redirects the operator energy to the top panel, giving Super Sneakies their superior safety performance.

Additional information

To disengage from the operator, simply pull the emergency release rope, tip the top section inwards and raise the door manually.Super Sneakies are capable of installing both door and operator in 5” of headroom, contact us directly for additional technical information.

Installation update:

1.Formula for cutting vertical track: subtract curve radius of track from height of door, cut vertical tract, ex. 7’ – 15” = 69” Tip: This is bare minimum to place vertical track so that door clears header height and should allow you to install door and operator in 6” of headroom clearance. ( standard front mount torsion spring) Add to final formula for additional clearance above 6”. Example: 8” of ceiling clearance ( 7’ – 15” = 69” + 2” = 71” Cut your horizontal track at 71” Please note: this is a not an exact science but a rule of thumb.

2.Cables: When cutting vertical track it may be necessary to shorten cables as well to prevent slack cable problems.(Tip) Cable should not wrap more than one time around cable drum.

3.Extreme installs: Sometimes tolerances get so tight you need extra room between the door face and automatic door operator. Try placing door roller in the no. 1 hole position on the end hinge, this will add clearance between door face and automatic operator.

4. Top section wants to tip up before bottom of garage door meets floor: 1) Drum Cable too long. 2) Weather seal pushed to tightly to door face. 3) Take some windings off spring

5.Tip!!!!!!Where the operator arm connects to the operator door mount, use a bolt with a lock nut and possibly washers to create tension and give automatic operator more downward pushing power.

6.Try using a lubricant on the back of the weather stripping.
