Will your bracket work without an operator?
Technically yes, the door will work with out an operator, however a person would have to reach up to the top section release a lock mechanism and manually tip the top section in before the door can be raised.
We promote the use of a draw bar operator only with our bracket for the following reasons.
1) We have to always keep in mind elderly people. Product designs must cater to individuals with special needs, they must be simple, easy, well made and safe. From an 80-year-old customers point of view, they push a simple button and the door goes up, they drive their car into the garage, push the button again and the door goes down.
2) Always keep in mind SuperSneaky top brackets are a very special item and occupy a niche’ category all their own. When nothing else can work our brackets sneak in there to get the job done. Our experience indicates that most door companies simply don’t or can’t quote these types of jobs. When you tell your customer you can install the door and make it run automatically, the additional cost of an operator will never be an issue.
3) From a marketing point of view, you’re there on the job anyhow; you might as well install an operator. You, the door dealer will win because you get to increase the value of an operator and your customer wins since they get the convenience of pushing a button. Everyone wins, everyone is happy and that’s good business and that’s what SuperSneaky Engineering is all about.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to contact us at any time with any more questions.

Spring Mount
I found that in tight low headroom installations mounting the operator bracket to the header can be a difficult and some times frustrating procedure. One thing that I found is that you can attach punched angle to your spring mount and bolt your operator directly to this.
The procedure is as follows:
Take two pieces of punched angle approximately four holes and nip the corners off to get rid of the sharp edge.
Place the punched angle back to back and bolt this to the opposite side of the spring cone. You may need to reem the whole a little bigger in the punched angle so the bolt will slide through it.
Now you can bolt the operating mounting bracket directly to the punched angle.
What this will do is place the operator mounting position in front of the spring mount, which will make your installation easier and extend the rail travel.
